Born out of a hunger for more opportunities to create experimental movement art, Reel Movement Project creates a new dance film each month. Although our primary focus is creating movement/dance centric art, RMP is committed to bringing together artists of any discipline through an intensely collaborative process. Our hope is to lower the stakes, open the discussion up to less conventional ideas, and encourage participants to try new things. In the midst of artistic opportunities that often require copious amounts of previous experience, we aim to give our collaborators a chance to try out new roles and develop new or existing skills. We believe that a focus on process (read: practice) rather than audience response, awards, and followers allows for more artistic growth and lets emerging artists find joy in creation.

The Facts

We produce a new dance/movement film every month.

The short turn around is designed to:

  • allow artists to luxuriate in the creative process, because they aren’t focusing on viewers

  • push creators to trust their instincts and make creative choices quickly

  • be a manageable time commitment for working artists

 

Our focus is dance film, but we ​are seeking chances to collaborate with emerging creators of all disciplines. RMP wants to provide space for

  • choreographers who have never made movement for the camera

  • film directors creating their first movement-centered film

  • editors who want to master editing choreography set to music

and any artist looking for the opportunity to expand their creative practice.

For every project RMP provides

  • three hardworking creatives dedicated to the success of the idea

  • contacts to help fill other creative rolls required for the film's success 

  • financial assistance - RMP will triple match a collaborator's contribution (if you have $50 to spend on your film, you will have a $200 budget)

We are also emerging artists in the field. But we are excited to take on any project idea, and problem solve our way to success - a cool final product and a ton of gained knowledge.
